The drying up of the Aral Sea is one of the greatest environmental disasters in history. Between 1954 and 1960, the government of the former Soviet Union ordered the construction of a 500 km-long canal that would take a third of the water from the Amu Darya River for an immense area of irrigated land in order to grow cotton in the region. From Biarritz to the south, we can explore its  original and small beaches such as: La Grande Plagethe Côte des Basques (Basque Coast) and the Syndicat des port (port of fishermen.) Port once the swimmers who came to bathe, because of the therapeutic properties that had water. For many years, Biarritz, was whaling town, until the Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon had built a palace on the beach (now the Hotel du Palais), From this moment Biarritz became world famous.
